Hi,
My dream job is to be a journalist. I would like to be a journalist because I love to write, I love to run away from the reality.The kind of journalist that I would like to be is a journalist that writes for magazines or for newspapers. I think that writing is something that takes us to a new world, the world of imagination. So here it is my dream job.

My dream job is to be a big chemical engineer because I like very much math, science and formulas.

In this profession I could do several experiments, discover new chemical substances and their physical and chemical properties. I also think that making many explosive discoveries must be very interesting.

This job would put my brain to work better because it would have to think and study longer. I won’t give up at the first difficulty.

BANK MANAGER

DEFINITION:

“An executive who is in charge of the branch office of a bank or financial institution. A branch manager is responsible for all of the functions of a branch office, like hiring employees, approving loans and lines of credit, marketing the branch, building a rapport with the community in order to attract business and assisting customers with account problems. A branch manager is also responsible for making sure that the branch's goals and objectives are met in a timely fashion. “

I am organized, responsible and cautious, which are very important characteristics for a person who wants to work in a job with such responsibility. I am good at mathematics and I like solving problems.

       I would like to be a bank manager in Portugal but I would prefer working for an international famous bank like HSBC or Lloyds Banking group, which are the best British banks.

These banks would allow me to be in contact with famous people and I find that very interesting. I could even meet Prince Harry!!!

I find this kind of job challenging and we have to prove to other people that they can trust us their money, which is not an easy thing. We have to win their trust and have a good relationship with the clients. I would have to decide my goal and objectives and work hard to meet them as soon as possible.

If I had to choose the bank’s employees I would choose the best qualified people with the best experience in the banking area. I would only grant loans or credits if I was sure that it would benefit the bank.

I would earn a good salary and with that money I would buy a house with lots of space so that I could have lots of animals, travel around the world and buy some nice cars.

But I would also like to help other people (like children from orphanages) and help organizations that protect animals.

What do you want to be in the future?

                In the future, my biggest goal is to be a psychologist.

         This career pleases me because it is a profession that consists of helping other people and of showing them solutions to some of their troubles!
         I really want to be psychologist, because I am a very peaceful person, I am patient, comprehensive, generous and many times I prefer the goodness of another person than mine, but I have to be much stronger and a more careful person. This biggest goal that I want to reach is due to what I dream for the world… I dream that every single person has peace and security about “who we are”, I dream one day I’ll be able to give them a bit of peace when they have family problems, love problems and many other kind of problems.

         I don’t want to have just a job and to do what my supervisors order me to do. I don’t want to just have a graduation, but to have desire and joy in helping people, so they can breathe, cry or smile with me and I really hope that one day I can have this… good and bad moments with people who seek me. And I hope to show them the real meaning of life and why we are in the world! And I hope to grow up with them too J

My idea of a dream job has changed over the years. When I was a little girl, I dreamt of being a hairdresser just like my godmother. Later, I wanted to be a beautician. I love everything related to beauty and fashion!

Now, my aims are different. I dream of being a successful lawyer. I want to study Law and fight for other people`s rights. I believe in justice and I want to have an important role in society.

However, I am aware of the huge difficulty there is today in Portugal to find a decent job. And even though I hope it will be different in a few years, I am willing to go abroad to work and live.

My dream job

Since I was a child I have always dreamed of being an astronaut because the space is fantastic and mysterious.

I would like to be an astronaut in order to investigate how the world is and to find out more about the many things beyond the solar system.

I would like to be an astronaut in order to help people understanding physics and understanding more about space. And I'd like to be known as a hero for being able to understand and discover our space so mysterious.

Penalva de Alva

Penalva de Alva is a very old settlement. It is not known when or by whom it was founded. Penalva de Alva is one of the 21 parishes of the county of Oliveira do Hospital. This parish consists of places like: Caldas de S. Paulo, Carizeu, Carvalha, Formarigo, Merujais, Moita, Quintais de S.Pedro and St. António do Alva.

It is located not very far from Serra da Estrela (our highest mountain), in the beautiful borders of River Alva and it is surrounded by a lovely green landscape.

It is an essentially rural area where most people work in handicraft, farming and cattle raising.

Penalva de Alva is rich in legends and traditions which improve tourism and leisure activities such as fairs, festivals and gastronomy.

There is a Recreation Society and a Social-Cultural Center which improve the life quality of the inhabitants.

Foreign people, mainly British and Belgian, moved from their countries and settled down in Penalva de Alva because of the life quality they can find here, as we can see from the following testimony of a teenage boy:

 Vinho do Porto/ Port wine

 Port wine is a natural and fortified wine produced exclusively from grapes. This alcoholic beverage was known as "port wine" from the second half of the seventeenth century because it was exported around the world from Oporto. There are three types of Port wine: White, Ruby and Tawny. This product is very appreciated by British people which are its main international consumers.

         SOUP

Caldo verde / Green broth

“Green broth” may not sound like the name of a world-class soup, but that's just what “caldo verde” is. Considered by many as Portugal’s national dish, this soup gets its green color from finely sliced kale added to the simmering stockpot for a couple minutes just before serving. Kale and potato soup is traditionally prepared with spicy “chouriço” (sausage). 



 

Canja/ Chicken soup

Chicken soup is a typical Portuguese soup made of rice or risoni pasta and chicken meat. Chicken soup has, in the popular culture of the country, medicinal properties, particularly in fighting colds or when someone feels sick or has a stomachache. 
 
 

          FISH        

Bacalhau / Codfish

Codfish is a very strong flavored fish, intensified by the curing process (dry and salted) and it’s a Portuguese traditional dish. You can boil it, fry it, stew it, grill it, roast it or make it into balls. Portuguese who actually enjoy this traditional dish consider that there are 1,001 different ways of preparing it. The most famous recipes are “bacalhau com todos, bacalhau à gomes de Sá, bacalhau com natas” and “bacalhau à brás”.
  

 MEAT

Feijoada (beans with pork meat and cabbage)

Feijoada was originated around the 14th century in the Northern region of Portugal. Feijoada is made with red pork meat and kidney beans. During that time meat was scarce, so the poor peasants began using every part of the pig as the basis of their diets along with beans and cabbage which were easily available.
 
 

Carne de porco à Alentejana / Pork meat

Pork meat is a delicious meat course. It takes wine, paprika, salt and pepper, garlic cloves, bay leaf, and cubed meat. The meat is put in a marinade to acquire flavour and texture and then slowly cooked. Before serving it is mixed with fried potato cubes and pickles. 
 
 
 

DESSERT

Pastéis de nata  / Portuguese custard tarts

Pastéis de nata are Portuguese custard tarts.  The tarts are said to have been created by the Catholic nuns of the Jerónimos Monastery of Belém before the 18th century.  Since the monastery’s closure in the 1820s the only source for the original tarts–pastéis de Belém–is Antiga Confeitaria de Belém, a pastry shop just outside of Lisbon.  Pastéis de nata are a delicious sweet dessert that everyone loves!! 

    Arroz Doce / Rice Pudding

Rice pudding is a traditional Portuguese dessert made with milk, sugar and rice. It is usually decorated geometrically with cinnamon powder. It can be eaten hot or cold. Some people add egg yolk to it to improve its flavour and colour.

My Dream Job - Tiago Raimundo

Since my childhood that I dream of belonging to the police academy or to be an ambulance technician.
My first choice is because I admire the police work. I think being a policeman is a good job because he often reaches his goals, that is, catching the bad guys.
In what concerns being an ambulance technician, this job fascinates me because it is a person that saves lives, he almost makes God's job.
These dream jobs have in common the fact that both help people, both are risky and both give us the possibility of being a hero.

Hobbies in Finland

Here in Finland we have a lot of different hobbies that we can do.

At winter when it is cold and snowy and lakes are frozen we can play ice-hockey and go skiing. You can play videogames, watch TV and listen to music and do all that kind of stuff in the house.

At summer you can do a lot of things that you can’t do at winter. You can play football with your friends, ride a horse, practice for Rally Finland in Jyväskylä, play Finnish baseball, tennis, volleyball and all that kind of things.

Finnish baseball is different than USA:s baseball. Ball is thrown to the air and passer moves out of the way and player hits the ball as hard as he can.  

Finnish baseball is our national sport and it is played in Sweden, Japan, Estonia, Australia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
